Beware of this shelter! They process all your paperwork stating "no refunds" prior to disclosing that the animal is chronically ill and handing you the animal with the medication. I adopted a kitten that was four months old three weeks ago. They made me sign everything and ran my credit card for $140.00 in fees to adopt him. An hour later, they brought him out with eye medication and a medical record that ran for two pages of problems he has had since April 2011. I have been giving him medication in his eye on a daily basis to no avail and he is still in pain and sick. They make a point of telling you, you must return the animal to them as they still retain ownership. I sadly brought him back today as I could not afford daily medication. I feel they were not honest and did not disclose his medical problems which have been rampant since April 2011. I adopted him n August 10th. This has caused me great heartache. When I returned him, everyone there knew his name and recognized him which was eerily creepy and made me feel like he has been returned before. Because he is so cute, they keep adopting him out and collecting $140 each time. He was already neutered and had his shots but they said I would have to pay for them as they were "included in the adoption process"." How many people have paid for his spaying and shots by now? I feel he is a money maker for them and I was tricked into signing the contract without seeing his medical records and problems/. I would be very careful with this agency as I feel like they were not honest with me?. I live on a fixed income and was looking for a companion animal|. What I received was a very sick animal who required daily medication and daily care for his illness!. I have had a cat before who was never sick as a kitten:. This kitten would require extensive veterinary care that is very costly". I feel the shelter should make sure the animal is healthy when it is offered for adoption and not use the cute sick animals as money makers". It is disgraceful!

I recently went to Peggy Adams Shelter in West Palm Beach - what a difference from Boca Rio road! The animals are in a clean environment. It was a breeze to adopt there - they are very efficient! The employees were all pleasant and happy and a joy to interact with! I adopted a 5 yr old male cat last month and i am happy to say he is wonderful. thank God for shelters like this that treat the animals humanely - what a difference! Boca Rio Road was a nightmare!

It's almost a year later and the employees are still replying to my post...no wonder the place is never clean!

I repeat, you are all underhanded and the place is a disgusting disease ridden facility. Put as much effort and time into cleaning it up as you have wasted time replying to me Ms. Employee and maybe the animals would be healthy. That should be your main concern. Whatever!

It's always best to read everything before signing or initialing, whether someone there explains it or not.

No I didnt notice the infected eye, an employee was holding him close to her on that side to show him to me. I was not allowed to hold the kitten until all the paperwork was done and then they didn't bring him out until over an hour after that. Also the smell in the room where they had the kitten - in the back with the big cats was so bad I could not breath - they rushed me out of there. Look, I have had cats and rescued nine kittens and found homes for them. It is wrong for you to be judgemental of me. You don't know my situation. Why, only rich people should be able to adopt? What a hypochrite you are! How many other employees will be answering this post? It is what it is!They adopt out sick animals that have contagious diseases to other cats as well. This was the biggest problem. I did not want him to infect the other cat I watch for someone from time to time. Whatever! I will never recommend that shelter to anyone.

There are hundreds of animals at this shelter available for adoption. Did you not notice this kittens eye infection when you chose him/her? This shelter is loving, caring, very responsible and truthful. In my opinion, your reason for adopting is nothing short of selfish. You should be more interested in giving a loving home to a shelter animal than just to keep YOU company. If you cannot afford to care for a pet, why get one in the first place?

The Vet tech went over the medical history after I signed everything. face it, you trick people into adopting sick animals and that is what happened. I wasn't "lazy." I was there for almost two hours waiting for the kitten to come out from the back. Whatever! Try cleaning the place and maybe they won't be diseased! Sure they know every kitten's name! Took you long enough to answer this also! So you got my $140 donation and you got the kitten back to re-adopt him out to someone else who will pay for the neutering and shots all over again. You and your organization are underhanded. I am not the only person who experienced this. There are many others who have posted reviews about your location. Too bad I didn't see them until after I went to your facility. There are many other bad reviews out there about your organization. You'd better get busy - you have a lot of replies to prepare! Whatever, I guess you have to justify what your job is there. Put as much effort into cleaning the place. That cat room was inhumane for a living thing!!!

Hello?? If you bothered reading the first paragraph of your contract, which by the way YOU did initial, you would have read that you will be given medication if there is a medical condition currently being treated. If you had a problem with that you should have stopped the adoption process right then and made sure there was no medical condition before continuing!! No on tricked you into anything. It was all there in the contract, you were too lazy to read it and now you've decided to play victim after things didn't work out the way you wanted. If you are truly an animal lover you would do anything for your new kitten, but now it seems to be all financial for you. On the adoption application you answered YES to the question of "can you afford to pay the vet fees if your new pet is ill" but now you're crying "fixed income" and try to make Tri County out to be all about money. I see that finances can be an issue for you with one kitten but not for them who are taking care of hundreds of animals every day?!? Tri County will gladly take the kitten back and give the care and love she deserves. You have no idea the financial responsibilities of running a facility like Tri County and taking care of hundreds of cats and dogs daily. Now you want to complain because the fees were not up to your expectations?? Funny thing is in one sentence you say the medical information was not diclosed and another sentence you say the Vet Tech went over 2 pages of medical records with you. Soooo, did they diclose it or not?? Also, just to clear this up, the kitten had never been adopted before. Of course people in the shelter know this kitten's name. They know every animal's name in the facility, because THEY CARE AND LOVE ALL OF THEM!!!! I am so tired of people like you who have nothing better to do than bad mouth great organizations. Thank God for facilities like this who can and will take care of sick animals when people like you don't want to bother with it. So, Tri County will still be there when those sick helpless animals become a BURDEN for you or anyone like you.
